When I started my Journey in July 2014, I naturally started training in the sports I had practiced for so long in my 22 year Triathlon career. The trouble was that I was trying to get back in shape with physiologic and training principles I learned from my studies at University and competition in the 1980s.

I decided it would behoove me to find an expert whose orientation reflected current state of the art training in the 21st century. I wasn’t looking for a professional whose life revolves 24/7 around training, but rather an age-grouper leading a balanced life.

Sometime in late 2016, I happened upon the ScientificTriathlon website run by Mikael Erickson. Mikael is a Triathlete from Finland who moved to Portugal to follow his dream of competing in Triathlons.

What sets Mikael apart from the cohorts of Triathlete coaches online, is that he is the age-grouper I was looking for. He is hungry to shine at this level, and has a good balance of training while leading a normal life. He reminds me very much of where I was in the 1980s as I started with Triathlons.

His free weekly podcasts reflect an ever endless parade of physiologists, national and olympic coaches, and noted competitors on the cutting edge of Triathlons, and any sport for that matter.

As he is a successful competitor himself, he offers training programs, coaching, and training camps for anyone interested in gaining the next level of performance.

As I was in the 1980s at the beginning of my Triathlon career, he avidly seeks to discover the latest training methods from all corners of the sporting world. He also features an impressive array of the latest training gadgets to help anyone reach their maximum potential.

I therefore, feel extremely comfortable in recommending Mikael to anyone entering the sport, or even anyone seeking to understand the physiology of successful training, in any sport!
