THE EXPERTS!

THE PROS:

I have assembled these ‘Experts’ because they reflect most closely my views as I have gone through the decades of my life. I chose them because they are experts, and while my beliefs reflect the same opinions, I defer to them as they are much more knowledgeable, charismatic, and eloquent in the descriptions of their expertise and strengths.

I follow these experts as they are most closely aligned with my philosophy of the three pillars of GoinOn30Rocks:

  • Weight loss and management
  • Training
  • Longevity and Quality of Life

FAT LOSS AND WEIGHT MANAGEMENT

EAT STOP EAT: FAT LOSS AND WEIGHT MANAGEMENT

In 2007, I was a private trainer in a somewhat prestigious SanFrancisco south bay gym. Tired of hearing about the latest and trendiest weight loss fad diets, and the ensuing confusion, I researched a method of weight loss that could be followed by anyone. Scouring the internet, I came across ESE by Brad Pillon. This truly is a ‘non-diet’ that anyone can succeed with.

BURN THE FAT, FEED THE MUSCLE: WEIGHT LOSS, MUSCLE BUILDING

In mid to late 2005, by the time the internet was well established and I had moved to SanFrancisco, I came upon Tom Venuto’s website, and his flagship program, ‘Burn the fat, feed the muscle’. Devouring his book by the same name, I realized I finally had found someone who embodied and verbalized all that I had sought to impart to my clients as a private trainer in the previous 25 years.

TRAINING

SCIENTIFIC TRIATHLON: TRAINING

As I started my ‘GoingOn30’ fitness Journey in July 2014, and having scattered successes, I decided it would be beneficial to find an expert that offered training rooted in scientific principles. Mikael Erickson offers this on his site and weekly podcast which are oriented to Triathlons, but the principles discussed apply universally to any training.

TOTAL IMMERSION: SWIMMING

Some time in the late 1980s, I discovered Total Immersion, a way of swimming that had been developed by Terry Laughlin, a swim coach. I subsequently adopted his swimming technique in my own personal training and coaching at the HighSchool level.

LONGEVITY AND QUALITY OF LIFE

CORE WALKING: ANATOMY, BIOMECHANICS, HUMAN MOVEMENT

I came across Jonathon Fitzgordon about 2012 during my excruciating knee challenges. It is seminal that before you can run efficiently, you must learn to walk properly and without pain. I realized that when CoreWalking mentioned parallel feet as a biomechanical requirement to a painless gait, I had found the voice of what I had discovered 45 years earlier in 1975. Parallel feet is how I learned to become pain free, both walking and running.

THE CONS:

The cons to all my recommendations here, are that, while these methods absolutely work, they all require study and application. Success will not happen overnight, and just understanding the concepts will result in zero change without diligent application.

If you expect that the government, the infomercials, or even the professionals are the only ones who have the responsibility to help you, then none of my recommendations will help you. The only person with the final say on who can fix you, is you. If you don’t believe that, you’re on the wrong site!
